Global Methodist Church Receives Over $400,000 in Hurricane Relief Donations

By Dianne Burnett

In the wake of the devastating Hurricanes Helene and Milton, the Global Methodist Church has received over $400,000 in generous donations from its members and supporters to aid in relief efforts. The Transitional Leadership Council (TLC) has approved the immediate disbursement of these funds to the annual conferences most severely impacted by the storms.

The seven annual conferences receiving relief funds are: Alabama Emerald Coast, Florida, Mid-South, North Carolina, South Carolina, North Georgia, and South Georgia.

Cara Nicklas, Chair of the TLC, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming generosity shown by the church’s global community and affirmed the council’s decision to move swiftly in providing aid. “We are deeply moved by the outpouring of support from our members during this time of crisis. The Global Methodist Church has always stood together in the face of adversity, and these funds will help provide much-needed relief to our brothers and sisters in the affected regions. Our decision to prioritize immediate disbursement reflects our commitment to care for those in need.”

The donations will be used to provide essential resources, including shelter, food, and recovery materials as the impacted communities begin the long process of rebuilding.

“We are particularly mindful of the Florida Conference, which faced the double blow of Hurricanes Helene and Milton,” Nicklas added. “Their resilience and determination have been inspiring, and we wanted to ensure that our support matched the gravity of their situation.”

The Global Methodist Church extends heartfelt appreciation to all members who contributed to the relief fund. “This outpouring of generosity is a testament to the compassionate spirit of our church family. Your contributions are making a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.”

Looking ahead, after January 1, the Connectional Commission on Evangelism, Church Multiplication, Missional Mobilization, and Disaster Response will take over the responsibility of overseeing relief efforts and decisions related to disaster response. The Global Methodist Church remains committed to serving those in need and responding swiftly to future crises.
